What we once believed Chapter Four

When the next workforce discipleship class came out, I lost my best friend, anyways temporarily. Tiwa decided she was going to join the workforce. I guess it was for a hidden agenda of hers though. Her friend Joyce was getting recognitions from the brothers in the fellowship and she didn’t want to be left behind. You see, all the good brothers are workers, the rest are the designer label brothers; Givenchy wristwatches, Timberland shoes, three quarter trousers that was elastic at the tip. That was what was trending then, 2013/14. Nobody need to tell you, these brothers have no future ambitions and were bad news.
When Tiwa told me about her intension, I advised her against it expressing my logic formula. You are in Rome, you behave like the Romans. At this time she has stopped relaxing and making bulky hair, but Tiwa can like to wear smug fitting clothes; pencil skirt, skimpy pleated skirt, bust revealing tops... So I tell her she won’t be able to cope with the draconian rules of the church and next I am the bad guy and she is hanging around more with Joyce.
I don’t miss her though until a provocating brother says to me one day as I walk home alone from evening service.
“Why do you always walk alone, you do not have friends.”
I defend myself instantly, “I would rather walk alone than walk with bad companies.” Wait a minute, I have heard that before. Yes, sister Dorcas’s sermon at the sister’s koinonia. Koinonia is the Sunday evening fellowship in the hostels. Then it hits me, who was the bad company? So all those times she was ignoring me and Tiwa, we were… Point noted. Now I am the only bad company because Tiwa was with Joyce.
I can’t laugh alone ooh. Tiwa finally completed discipleship class and came the final interview. Jesus is Lord; when shaft will be separated from the wheat, hehehe. Her first interviewer had a very ill-informed orientation. So he asked,
“Are you possessed?” this is because Tiwa is fair skinned and this Ogbomosho man imagined she was possessed. Strike one for her.
Two, her next interviewer asked her to explain her take on skimpy dressing. Being the vain person she can sometimes be; she is forming barrister with the wife of the campus overseer. I don’t know what she went and said there but whatever it is, it gave her strike two and by the end of the discipleship program, her name was M.I.S.S.I.N.G from the new worker’s list. That is how I got my friend back.
The ordination that year ushered in change and vibrancy in the campus fellowship. That was the year Brother Seun was in his finals and was named the evangelism co-ordinator. I remembered, my younger brother who just gained admission telling me he enjoyed the campus church more than the church back home and that he admired the zeal of our evangelism co-ordinator. What is there not to love? I keep my sored opinion to myself. Or what will my bad mouthing him gain? Like father would say, if you have nothing good to say, go and be praying about the situation. Silent apostle ministry continues. Intercessor at work, Keep off!

What we once believed Chapter Two

Starting well and finishing strong, that is the story of the campus fellowship excos; the perfect story but this story am about to tell you is imperfect. I have known Brother Seun ever since my predegree days. In short, everyone knows Brother Seun, the evangelism coordinator. So let’s quickly run through his personality profile. Loveable? Check, vibrant? Check, dedicated? Check, outspoken? Check, heaven trembling and demon chaser? Check, handsome? If I hear; but whatever he lacked at that department, he made up for in suave. However, he is not my favourite kind of person reason being he was egoistic and showy. If he had stopped at that perhaps it would have been manageable but he had a weakness, sisters. As a friend would say, ‘ministry for the sisters.’ He would stop at nothing to catch the attention of sisters in the fellowship. Now don’t misconstrue me; he was not in any immoral act or anything with them, he just lives for female attention. To anyone else, it might seem just ordina...

Nneka The Pretty Serpent, part two?

Viewers Digression: Paranormal movie. I do not know what I was thinking buying a ticket to see movie, normally I don't do paranormal. Paranormal are movies on metaphysics, metaphysics= spirits and magic. As a good Christian girl, I'm sorry it doesn't seat well with me. So from title, snake girl is a giveaway, seeing Nneka, red flag but the hype on social media was tempting. First the movie flier I saw had a village setting or was that my imagination, ooh now I know, the 30years ago backtrack. I'm a sucker for movies set in the 90s and backwards. There is something original about those movies, that a playwright can recreate those scene, actually wins for effort. No one spends that much on costume and stage to release rubbish. On rubbish, Nneka storyline just suck. If there is a parts 2, No am not watching! The movie started with lot of promise, but in between the serial killing, the writer lost it. For acting, all crew were perfect to the T. Especially Ada played by Bimb...

What we once believed Chapter Three

Sister Dorcas is another such vibrant sister in the fellowship. She is my level mate and I guess she did pre-degree like me but I don’t notice her until when we were freshers. And trust me; I was always sitting on the noticing pew, the back benchers. You get to see who comes and go, who has the hottest heels or who is wearing the oxygen trousers. For those who don’t  know what the oxygen trousers is, well Fashion Police 101, those over-zealous brothers who wear oversize everything; trousers, oversize, shirt or coat, oversize even the shoes, it has to be ancient in design. Obviously, the wide trousers let in air and the overall effect makes them look like astronauts in space suit. Well, astronauts need oxygen in space. Even when Tiwa, my friend and I started noticing Dorcas, she is snobbish and does not hang around after service. After the benediction of every service, she picks up her bag, bones face and goes home. Well it is not like we were going to make friends with her or even...
