What we once believed Chapter Four

When the next workforce discipleship class came out, I lost my best friend, anyways temporarily. Tiwa decided she was going to join the workforce. I guess it was for a hidden agenda of hers though. Her friend Joyce was getting recognitions from the brothers in the fellowship and she didn’t want to be left behind. You see, all the good brothers are workers, the rest are the designer label brothers; Givenchy wristwatches, Timberland shoes, three quarter trousers that was elastic at the tip. That was what was trending then, 2013/14. Nobody need to tell you, these brothers have no future ambitions and were bad news. When Tiwa told me about her intension, I advised her against it expressing my logic formula. You are in Rome, you behave like the Romans. At this time she has stopped relaxing and making bulky hair, but Tiwa can like to wear smug fitting clothes; pencil skirt, skimpy pleated skirt, bust revealing tops... So I tell her she won’t be able to cope with the draconian rules of the c...

What we once believed Chapter Three

Sister Dorcas is another such vibrant sister in the fellowship. She is my level mate and I guess she did pre-degree like me but I don’t notice her until when we were freshers. And trust me; I was always sitting on the noticing pew, the back benchers. You get to see who comes and go, who has the hottest heels or who is wearing the oxygen trousers. For those who don’t  know what the oxygen trousers is, well Fashion Police 101, those over-zealous brothers who wear oversize everything; trousers, oversize, shirt or coat, oversize even the shoes, it has to be ancient in design. Obviously, the wide trousers let in air and the overall effect makes them look like astronauts in space suit. Well, astronauts need oxygen in space. Even when Tiwa, my friend and I started noticing Dorcas, she is snobbish and does not hang around after service. After the benediction of every service, she picks up her bag, bones face and goes home. Well it is not like we were going to make friends with her or even...

What we once believed Chapter Two

Starting well and finishing strong, that is the story of the campus fellowship excos; the perfect story but this story am about to tell you is imperfect. I have known Brother Seun ever since my predegree days. In short, everyone knows Brother Seun, the evangelism coordinator. So let’s quickly run through his personality profile. Loveable? Check, vibrant? Check, dedicated? Check, outspoken? Check, heaven trembling and demon chaser? Check, handsome? If I hear; but whatever he lacked at that department, he made up for in suave. However, he is not my favourite kind of person reason being he was egoistic and showy. If he had stopped at that perhaps it would have been manageable but he had a weakness, sisters. As a friend would say, ‘ministry for the sisters.’ He would stop at nothing to catch the attention of sisters in the fellowship. Now don’t misconstrue me; he was not in any immoral act or anything with them, he just lives for female attention. To anyone else, it might seem just ordina...

What we once believed Chapter One

‘The world has entered the church; the church is in the world.’ Left to me that should be my father’s official best saying not with the many times I have heard him say that to me. But any day, any time he would go with his signature, godliness with contentment is great gain. He said his father would always say that to him, and since he is fond of saying my first sentence to me, I guess it should be my official best saying. I can’t forget the first time he said it to me. I had just finished my pre-degree program to enter the university and the school already resumed for the new session. I was now a fresher finally and as I prepared to travel to school, I went to the saloon to braid my hair with wool attachment. That day was a drama to behold. When I got to the house, I went straight to my mirror judging myself before anyone would. It is not like it’s my first time, all through my pre-degree days I was on braids but this is the first time my parents will be seeing me on braids. My mothe...
