Starting well and finishing strong, that is the story of the campus fellowship excos; the perfect story but this story am about to tell you is imperfect. I have known Brother Seun ever since my predegree days. In short, everyone knows Brother Seun, the evangelism coordinator. So let’s quickly run through his personality profile. Loveable? Check, vibrant? Check, dedicated? Check, outspoken? Check, heaven trembling and demon chaser? Check, handsome? If I hear; but whatever he lacked at that department, he made up for in suave.
However, he is not my favourite kind of person reason being he was egoistic and showy. If he had stopped at that perhaps it would have been manageable but he had a weakness, sisters. As a friend would say, ‘ministry for the sisters.’ He would stop at nothing to catch the attention of sisters in the fellowship. Now don’t misconstrue me; he was not in any immoral act or anything with them, he just lives for female attention. To anyone else, it might seem just ordinary, nothing bad but to me, hmm I guess once bitten twice shy.
Back track to my secondary school days, so I was crushing on this classmate. Wait, come to think of it, he too was not that handsome but suave and charm saved the day. He was really popular with the female students and was boyfriend to any girl who had money to spend on him. He was even dating a senior. Okay, Toba was collecting money from me too and I got carried away one day when he got into a fight in school and I accidentally run my mouth to my elder sister that because I was seeing Toba, if I were in the fight scene I would have stopped him. So my sister tells this to her friend who happens to be the senior Toba is dating. Babes came claiming territory by intimidating me. And Toba, he all but laughed at me. End of story.
For obvious reason, my turnoff in men now was those who carve for female attention for ulterior motives. Maybe I wore my opinion of him too strongly because I came to notice the feeling was mutual. As he was not having the same effect he was getting from other sisters in church, he started his own temperament ideology that I was a choleric, a shy person. Me, shy? It is okay.
When he was going to really outdo himself, we perchance took a training class together and his entire attempt at striking a conversation with me proved abortive. Anyways, he is striking perfect conversation with the other girls so that should do. Or is it my fault that I don’t feel guys that are really vain. Shout out to all the brothers who do not need to act drama or cause a scene to get the attention of a sister. Yes, you know yourself. Don’t bother cheering and mind you it is very bad.
In one of the classes, the instructor was having problems with the sample. Brother Seun immediately intervened and the young Miss was all too happy to accept his help. Anyways, he too was messing up the steps. Fortunately, I can save the day because I had tailoring skills needed to solve the problem in question. So I told the instructors the way I felt it should be done. She was at first reluctant but then since no one is getting the right result yet she allows me. When I was able to solve the problem, what Brother Seun said really broke my heart.
“Weldone ma, you know she is a choleric, they always want the perfect job; too meticulous when they do things.” Seriously! I shut up and refuse to give room to Satan to use my mouth because if that is a thank you, he had a twisted way of saying it.
So Brother Seun had no chill at all. Personality check? Zero. Since he could not save the day, I don’t get the commendation either. Now you get the picture. He was working really well for the lord but for the commendations from the sisters in the church as it obviously looked like. But since the pastor is not complaining, and nobody sees what I see; note that I am not in the workforce too, so that speaks volume. My opinion does not count.
